The present work is devoted to the problem of crime and unlawful behavior of prisoners with mental disorders in prisons. The article sets out the theoretical and applied aspects of the execution of sentences in relation to prisoners with mental disorders. Some issues of psychiatric examination of prisoners suffering from mental disorders in places of deprivation of liberty, the production of forensic psychiatric examination during their commission of unlawful acts during the serving of sentences in the penitentiary system of the Republic of Belarus, the appointment and application of coercive measures of safety and treatment are raised. Based on the results of the study, it is concluded that the vast majority of mental disorders in people held in penitentiary institutions of the Republic of Belarus have a non-psychotic level of mental activity disorders (convicts are able to recognize the actual nature and significance of their actions or manage them) and do not prevent serving a sentence of deprivation of liberty freedom, as well as five groups of mental disorders, the most common among people held in prisons in the Republic of Belarus. Based on the high prevalence and complex nature of mental disorders, the unlawful behavior of convicts suffering from this ailment in places of deprivation of liberty, the insufficient effectiveness of existing preventive measures, it is concluded that modern criminology needs to use knowledge and achievements from related fields of scientific knowledge that study this problem and develop norms of the criminal-executive legislation of the Republic of Belarus, regulating the specifics of the execution of sentences in relation to prisoners with mental disorders.
