The article attempts to determine the nature of the family and on this basis to investigate the causes of violence in it, necessarily taking into account the external social conditions of its existence. The causes of domestic violence are considered in the context of the causes of violence in general. In searching for the causes of domestic violence, the author proceeds from the general position that a person has an instinct of aggression as a legacy of anthropoid ancestors, with which he is unable to cope. The violence experienced in childhood and early adolescence convinces a person that only his own strength is reliable and that the pleasure of violent control is the only alternative to his suffering and a way of protection. It has been suggested that violence as part of aggression can be malignant and benign (according to E. Fromm) and transmitted biologically from generation to generation as one of the forms and conditions of human life. The author concludes that violence is a natural tendency of a person, focuses on the fact that nature itself is aggressive when earthquakes, floods, epidemics occur on the planet. It is suggested that acute conflicts invariably harm the upbringing of children, labor activities, leisure activities, health conditions, give rise to criminal behavior. The author divides the causes of domestic violence into groups (intrafamily, external social, economic, “medical”, individual), without delving into the study of each of them. The object of study is the most important problem of family violence (family education, fear of death). In support of his conclusions the author gives vivid examples from practice.
