In the article the author draws attention to changes in the criminal policy, which are characterized by the humanization of the criminal law. One of the institutions that contributes to this process and embodies humanistic principles is the exemption from criminal liability. The author gives the positions of scientists who devoted their work to the study of the institute presented, as well as official statistics that reflect the number of people for whom the norms of exemption from criminal liability were implemented. However, according to the author, of particular interest is the implementation of the norms of this institution within the framework of Chapter 24 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation “Crimes Against Public Safety”. The elements of crimes contained in it have an increased public danger, which can entail the onset of extensive, dangerous consequences and are serious and especially serious crimes. Based on this, the legislator provided for special rules for exemption from criminal liability, which are characterized by the fulfillment of certain conditions that are contained in each of them. However, the implementation of these norms raises some issues that, according to the author, must be eliminated, which will generally positively affect the process of humanization of the criminal law.
